1,000 Deserving Children Receive Much-Needed School Supplies at Caridad Event

Many children get excited about the first day of the new school year because they arrive with shiny new backpacks and school supplies. Unfortunately, children from financially strapped families aren’t so lucky. That’s why Caridad Center hosted its Back To School Bash on Saturday, July 27, to put smiles on the faces of 1,000 low-income children. The annual event also provided the children with free haircuts, vision and hearing screenings. And, it was a day filled with fun, including face painting, magic shows, clowns, and lots of food and drinks. Approximately 3,000 people attended the event.

It was such a pleasure to see so many smiling faces. The children were so happy to be ready for school. Hundreds of families took advantage of haircuts, vision & hearing screening, and delicious treats delivered by a caring and compassionate army of volunteers,” said Connie Berry, board chair & co-founder of the Caridad Center.

Special thanks to The Wellington Equestrian Group, our presenting sponsor, as well as to our other sponsors and contributors, including El Bodegon Supermarkets who provided delicious food & beverages for attendees, The Keyes Company, Christ Child Society of Boca Raton, Brooklyn Club at Bellagio, Spirit of Giving, West Boca Medical Center, and others. Caridad also thanks Dr. David Cano & Dr. Lauree Manning from the Manning Eye Center, Virginia Pollard with Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches, and Dr. Laura Sims with Florida Eye Care Foundation for providing free vision screening services. Hearing Partners of South Florida provided free hearing screenings.

Dozens of volunteers donated their time to help with the registration, distribution of school supplies, and entertainment and activities. Groups such as the Rotary Clubs of Boca Raton and Delray Beach, Hollywood Institute of Beauty Careers, American Heritage School, The Keyes Company, West Boca Medical Center, and Zully Ruiz and many individuals helped make this fun event a success.
