Caridad Center Appoints Clinical Pharmacist Dr. Sandra Awaida to Board of Directors

Boynton Beach, FL – Caridad Center, a Palm Beach County-based free healthcare clinic providing comprehensive care to 7,500 patients and delivering over 70,000 services each year to families living in poverty, is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Sandra Awaida to its Board of Directors.

Dr. Awaida brings more than 25 years of seasoned healthcare experience spanning hospital, academic, private practice, and pharmaceutical industry settings. “Joining Caridad’s Board felt like a natural extension of my professional journey,” said Dr. Awaida. “From my years as a clinical pharmacist at the Massachusetts General Hospital to over a decade working in a cardiology practice, I’ve seen firsthand the difference compassionate, collaborative care can make in the lives of patients. At Caridad, I was deeply moved by the altruism of volunteer providers and the beauty of human connection.”

Dr. Awaida is a staunch advocate of the preventive approach to care and will collaborate with Caridad’s leadership to advance the center’s mission of expanding access to high-quality, preventive healthcare.

“To see a large center running entirely on donated expertise—and to know that 92 cents of every dollar raised goes directly to patient care—was immensely inspiring. Also, as a mother of three, I strongly believe that ensuring basic healthcare and education for children is the foundation of strong communities and can impact generations to come.”

About Dr. Sandra Awaida

Dr. Sandra Awaida began her career at the Massachusetts General Hospital (a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital), serving in the Intensive Care Unit and Internal Medicine Department and contributing to pharmacy research and residency committees. As an Adjunct Assistant Professor,  she mentored pharmacy students during clinical rotations at Northeastern University’s Bouve College of Pharmacy and held teaching positions in several universities in the US and abroad.

Dr. Awaida then joined Novartis Canada, Inc., leading new-product launches and medical-information initiatives and speaking at national meetings. She later co-founded a private cardiology practice, where she launched Chronic Care Management, Hypertension Remote Monitoring, and Pharmacogenomics consulting services. Since 2008, she has championed the expanded role of pharmacists in direct patient care and preventive medicine.

She holds certifications in Medication Therapy Management (American Pharmacists Association) and Pharmacogenomics (University of Pittsburgh), and is a member of the Clinical Pharmacogenomics Implementation Consortium (CPIC) and GTMRx Institute. In addition to her role with Caridad, she is a member of Impact100 Palm Beach County, where she served on its Health & Wellness grant review committee.  Dr. Awaida is a mother of three and, in her free time, enjoys painting, playing tennis, and traveling with her family.
